Evolving expectations for revenue managers

By Trevor Stuart-Hill, President & Founder, Revenue Matters

There is no one right way to be a revenue management practitioner, and the trick is to find what approach fits best. Attracting and retaining top revenue management talent can be a challenge these days. Owners and general managers often ask me what appears on the surface to be a very straightforward question: "What makes for a good revenue management practitioner?" The correct answer is, "It depends." And, while accurate, this answer isn't terribly satisfying; so let's take a few minutes to explore this topic together.

Wordly Travels
During Trevor's recent visit to Latin America, he had the opportunity to present alongside Dr. Bill Carroll, of Cornell University, at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador. Next, was a visit to Barranquilla, Colombia, where he gave an enlightening presentation on "Positioning Independent Hotels vs. Brands," following Dr. Bill Carroll, who presented on "True Value Proposition in Hospitality" and Gaurav Charla, Sr. Lecturer, University of South Wales, who spoke on "Sostenibilidad en la hotelería."

Trevor is grateful to all those involved in extending the invitation for him to speak, providing him the opportunity to explore uncharted territory...and make new friends along the way.

Introducing Beth England, Distribution Analyst

Beth England joined us 3 years ago, after transitioning from a career as an attorney to the hospitality industry. Prior to her legal career, Beth worked at Law Education Institute, helping plan and execute events throughout North America. Her experience included assisting with site inspection and evaluations, accommodations and event management. Following her legal career, which included trust and estate planning, Beth turned her attention to raising her two children. Beth is a graduate of Emory University where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science, and later earned her Juris Doctorate from The University of Denver.

Beth is a true asset to the team, due her attention to detail, organizational skills and ability to quickly learn and execute the varying aspects of the analyst role.

What you may not know, but would love to find out:

  • At the end of a busy workday, you will find Beth at her kids' lacrosse game or swim meet.
  • An ideal vacation for Beth always involves experiencing a new place she's never been before.
  • In her free time, Beth enjoys solving puzzles of all kinds.
  • Beth is glued to the TV whenever she has a chance to watch Amazing Race or
    Walking Dead.
  • If Beth could pick her theme song, it would be "Three Little Birds" or "Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes."
  • If Beth could have a chance encounter with one famous person, it would be Jimmy Buffett.
  • "When you're down and troubled, and you need a helping hand"...Beth is always there.
