U.S. hotel forecasts continue to look up
By Alicia Hoisington, Hotel Management

Another quarter gone, another round of forecasts from the industry’s analysts. And most of it spells good news for the United States hotel sector. Is there a downturn in sight? It doesn’t appear that way when looking at the data projected through the end of this year and into 2019.

This past month, we had the opportunity to experience charming hospitality at The Inn at Hastings Park in Lexington Massachusetts.  This Relais and Chateaux property sits just steps from Lexington Common where the first shots of the American Revolutionary War were fired.  Of course, every property has its own flavor of what service and attention to detail means; however, the natural welcoming reception we experienced here and the meticulous restoration of an historic home stands out as being very memorable.

Heading further north into Maine, we felt it was our mission to taste test every lobster roll we could. The one we had sitting out on the deck of The Clam Shack in Kennybunkport was fantastic.  The combination of a fresh one-pound lobster covered in both butter and mayo probably did it. The AC Hotel in Portland was home base for a couple nights. A design-forward property within convenient walking distance to the shops and restaurants on Commercial street.  Bao Bao was my favorite restaurant - a must visit if you like dumplings.

Although we were a bit too early to see the full splendor of the fall colors, the drive through New Hampshire’s White Mountain National Forest to Vermont was very scenic. The tour of the Ben and Jerry’s ice cream factory in Waterbury was a nice treat too. It’s amazing how such a simple concept and relatively small physical plant can become a global phenomenon. After a meeting there (more on that later), we stopped by the Waybury Inn in Middlebury, VT.  What’s so special about this place you ask?  It was the inspiration behind Bob Newhart’s “Stratford Inn” which, strangely enough contributed to my interest in pursuing hospitality as a career!  It’s funny how something so innocuous can have a profound impact on our lives.  I have no regrets!

Introducing Dana Paisley, Marketing Coordinator

Dana Paisley brings with her over ten years of experience working in the marketing and hospitality industries. Prior to working for Revenue Matters, Dana held positions as Marketing Coordinator and Social Media Manager for a small hospitality marketing company. Prior to that, she worked as a marketing coordinator for Destination Hotels & Resorts. Throughout the years, she has had the opportunity to gain experience in many aspects of marketing, including writing and editing mail, email and website copy and managing the execution of direct mail and email campaigns, as well as managing social media outlets for clients in the hospitality industry.

Since joining Revenue Matters, Dana has learned that Excel formulas are your friends, not your enemies; that patience is key when the need for troubleshooting arises; and that working with people that you love and admire is actually possible.

What you may not know, but would love to find out:
  1. Dana's favorite room in her home is the kitchen...where the day begins with a hot cup of coffee and ends with a creamy bowl of ice cream.
  2. After the hustle and bustle of the day, you'll find Dana cozying up to her favorite show, Offspring.
  3. Summer vacation would never be the same for Dana without a trip to the Outer Banks.
  4. Dana's favorite leading man on the big screen is Jimmy Stewart.
  5. Dana's favorite past time is organizing anything and everything she can get her hands on.
  6. A dinner out must always include Dana's husband, Tom...and shrimp and grits.
